Eligibility

#Shabab2030 is open to those with an already developed, tested, and/or implemented business venture.

We are looking for driven, resourceful, and entrepreneurial-spirited individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 35, have an existing project which contributes to one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which focuses on, or directly impacts the MENA region.

Participant represents and warrants that Participant is not a member of an ideological party that opposes the religious values, laws, customs and ethics of the Territory.

MBC reserves the right to cancel the prize in the event of breach of such representation and warranty by Participant

What are SDGs?

 

All member countries of the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (called SDGs) in 2015, with the aim of transforming our world for the better by 2030.

The SDGs are made up of 17 goals, here is the list of the following goals:

GOAL 1

No Poverty – End poverty in all its forms everywhere

GOAL 2

Zero Hunger – End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

GOAL 3

Good Health and Well-Being – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

GOAL 4

Quality Education – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

GOAL 5

Gender Equality – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

GOAL 6

Clean Water and Sanitation – Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO APPLY?

No, there is no fee to apply, and it only takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete the application.

WHEN DO APPLICATIONS OPEN?

Official applications will open on 22nd of January 2017 with a final application deadline of 31st of May.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?

#Shabab2030 is a unique social enterprise challenge that provides participants feedback through customized and efficient learning. Most competitions simply judge your concept without helping you learn from the experience.  #Shabab2030 participants receive not only seed funding, but an opportunity to get formally introduced and access to a broad network of successful in an emerging community with other creative and innovative entrepreneurs.

HOW IS #SHABAB2030 DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ENTERPRISE CHALLENGES?

From eliminating poverty, hunger and inequality, to delivering health, education and prosperity to millions of people around the globe, we believe that the best ideas for solving the world’s most critical problems come from young people just like you! #Shabab2030 is not just about launching a start-up; it’s about working with mentors and industry leaders, and getting the resources and support you need to take your project to the next level in order bring real, positive change to the Arab world we share.

DO I NEED AN ESTABLISHED BUSINESS TO COMPETE?

Yes, you must have an established project or social enterprise.  Projects in ideation phase are welcome to apply and take advantage of the learning resources available but will not be selected to move on in the finals.

IS THE COMPETITION ONLY OPEN TO CERTAIN INDUSTRIES OR IDEAS?

All businesses and ideas are welcome to compete and will be judged on their individual merit, as long as they contribute to one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

IS THERE A MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TEAM MEMBERS REQUIRED?

No, you can compete solo or as a team with as many team members as you’d like.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I MADE IT TO THE NEXT STEP? WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF I DO NOT ADVANCE?

All submissions receive notification of their outcome and feedback. Those chosen to proceed to the next step receive specific instructions for that next step.
